White Rock Neighborhood Association Neighborhood History
The White Rock Neighborhood Association is one of the oldest neighborhood associations in Dallas, having been formed in 1953. It currently covers the area bounded by Williamson Road on the west, Mockingbird Lane on the north and the shore of White Rock Lake on the east. This area includes about 800 homes.

The Association has been very active in protecting and improving the quality of life in its neighborhood. Recent accomplishments include:

  • Stopping the use of White Rock Lake Park for the City's annual Fourth of July fireworks display
  • Joining with other neighborhoods to block expansion of the East Dallas thoroughfare system, including proposed widening and straightening of Williamson Road and Dalgreen Drive, and a proposed connection between Bob-o-Link and Dalgreen
  • Ensuring that an 84" water main which traverses the neighborhood was constructed with a minimum of destruction of trees and disruption to residents
  • Convincing the City to relocate the new Northeast Police Substation from a heavily wooded area within White Rock Lake Park to an adjacent more open area
  • Helping Therapeutic Riding of Texas ("TROT") obtain City permission to operate a therapeutic riding program for handicapped children in the neighborhood
  • Initiating, negotiating, and enforcing the White Rock Lake Park Management Plan, and assisting in the development, approval, and implementation of the White Rock Lake Park Master Plan and the White Rock Lake Park Design Guidelines
  • Blocking DART from operating diesel commuter trains on the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks that run through the neighborhood
  • Relocating the "Cloisters parking lot" on the northwest shore of White Rock Lake, the closest parking lot in the park to single-family homes
  • Leading the campaign against proposals to put tour and dinner boats on White Rock Lake
  • Helping to build momentum for dredging the Lake as part of the City's 1995 bond program
  • Providing representatives to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens Citizens' Advisory Committee and the White Rock Lake Park Reforestation Task Force
  • Helping to achieve a City of Dallas historic designation for White Rock Lake Park
  • Supporting the development of the White Rock Lake Museum
  • Working with other neighborhoods through the Dallas Homeowners League to accomplish quality-of-life objectives too big for any one neighborhood to undertake
  • At its December 13, 2005 meeting members of the White Rock Neighborhood Association approved the association's new bylaws. WRNA Bylaws (a PDF document).
